Hardy Barracks Ramen Shack - Kaotan Ramen Roppongi (かおたんラーメン六本木)

I love little ramen shacks, and this place certainly qualifies. Technically, I think it is inside the grounds for the Aoyama National Cemetary - making it (hopefully) the only ramen shack inside a grave yard in Japan. This would be like a falafel place opening up inside Arlington National Cemetary.
A closeup of the shack. It says that the soup is a special formula brought over from China's Fujian province. We'll soon see how and if that is different from normal ramen soup. That's Hardy Barracks right behind on the right.
There's always a big MTV promo billboard directly across from this place - this month it's Ai Otsuka's Love Letter. It'll change every month. Kind of a nice touch.
Here's a fish-eye view of the location from right underneath the MTV ad. Again, Hardy Barracks right across the street - not even a one minute walk.
Standing in front of Kaotan Ramen, you can see Hardy Barracks on the left, and Roppongi Hills Mori Tower right in front.
This place is open from 11:30am until 5am - but you'd never know it unless you walk in. It looks banged up and deserted - but it's very much open. Here's the full menu, Japanese only.
Even the address looks old and messed up. Kind of amazing there's a place like this right in the heart of the most expensive real estate in Tokyo.
Here's the interior of the shack. It looks very shack-like even from the inside, but it has a cool 1950's Japanese feel to it. Notice the bare exposed electrical wire on the ceiling?
Here's my Miso Ramen (900 yen) with the boiled-egg topping (80 yen). Notice that the egg looks a little different? I think all of the eggs that they serve here are "futago" or eggs with two yolks. A nice touch.
I'll be back if I'm in the mood for something not too commercialized - it's pretty good and it's definitely a unique location. For anyone staying at Hardy, it's worth a try!
